Mental Health Awareness Week: Best places to visit on a Sunny day in Worcestershire
This week marks Mental Health awareness week 2021 and the theme this year is nature.
The team at Love Where You Live believe that there is no better way to take good care of both your mental and physical health, than by heading out into the sunshine and doing some fun, enjoyable activities with those you care about!
Here, we have lovingly pulled together six top local spots to visit on a sunny spring summer day in Worcestershire.
We have made sure that all of our suggestions are out in the open fresh air, where you will be at one within nature! 🙌
1. West Midlands Safari Park
We think this is the perfect family day out, situated in Bewdley, Worcestershire!
Journey on the four-mile Safari Drive-through and come face-to-face world’s most extraordinary and beautiful animals, such as the gentle giraffe, impressive rhino, inquisitive African wild dog, incredible African elephants and magnificent lions and tigers!
Have a wander around the Discovery Trail and discover the incredible Reptile House, Twilight Cave, Creepy Crawlies, Aquarium, Lorikeet Landing, Sea Lion Theatre and Penguin Cove. Visit the African Village to see the cheeky meerkats & the playful lemurs in Lemur Woods.
There are daily hands-on animal encounters, Sea Lion Shows, lemur talks, and hippo feeds all included in the admission price!
Step back in time as you journey through Land of the Living Dinosaurs and Ice Age, showcasing prehistoric creatures that once roamed the earth!
You can purchase wristbands on entry to enjoy the amazing rides in the Adventure Theme Park.

2. Severn Valley Railway
Step back in time to the golden age of the railway in one of the UK’s best heritage visitor attractions!
From the moment you enter the booking office to collect your tickets, you’re transported to a world full of vintage steam engines and powerful heritage diesel locomotives – feel them rumble under your feet, hear the sound of the whistle, smell the coal in the firebox and get ready for a FULL DAY adventure!
The Severn Valley Railway is a beautiful heritage steam railway running between Kidderminster and Bridgenorth.
The train stops at Hampton Loade, Highley, Arley and Bewdley. Visitors can jump off the train when they wish to visit local attractions within the area!
Hampton Loade also offers SVR passengers the opportunity to cross the river in the unique current powered passenger ferry which is the last in England. Visitors can then walk to the Dudmaston Estate and Hall.
We recommend packing a lovely full picnic as there are many amazing places out in the open within the Worcestershire greenery suitable for picnics along the journey!

3. Bewdley Museum
The museum is set in the heart of the beautiful riverside market town, Bewdley!
Being on the edge of the historic Wyre Forest, Bewdley offers an ideal starting point for many scenic walks.
Visit the Museum and take a look back in time, not only into the history of the Georgian town but also the surrounding Wyre Forest area!
Visitors can enjoy visual craft demonstrations; audio histories; hands on activities; imaginatively displayed artefacts; tactile displays and a sensory herb garden with water feature.
You can even find out what it was like to be locked up in the Bewdley town jails!
Admission to the historic museum is free! They welcome visitor’s donations which enable them to continue to bring the heritage and culture of this area to everyone.
The Shambles and Herb Garden are now open to walk through, as well as the gift shop, which is open every day, from 10am until 4.30pm!

Wyre Forest is an area of gentle rolling hills, meandering rivers, steep wooded valleys and very ancient woodlands.
Generally, the area is popular for walking, mountain biking, horse riding, golf, fishing and canoeing.
Go Ape is set in a 6000-acre forest with massive Oak and pine trees!
Go Ape activities involve tree top crossings, tunnels, bridges and zip wires. The experience usually takes about 2-3 hours, and you will be trained in the use of harnesses, pulleys, carabineers and various safety methods by qualified instructors.
Afterwards you will navigate through the tree top obstacle course to eventually finish on a brilliant zip-wire descent
This one is one of our favourites because it really is fantastic fun!

5. Churchfields Farm and Ice Cream shop
Perfect for the Summer Ice Cream lovers!
Churchfields Barn boasts traditional oak beams and rural character which is set on a working farm within the beautiful Worcestershire countryside in Droitwich Spa.
The Barn is perfect for families and friends to meet up for a coffee along with a homemade cake or a homemade milkshake or ice cream sundae!
The menu features homemade cakes, freshly made sandwiches, and the award-winning ice cream, made on the farm from the pedigree herd.
The ice cream counter holds 36 homemade flavours! Wow!
They also have a small toy area, along with outside patio areas where you can sit and enjoy the beautiful Worcestershire countryside!

If you truly want to get away from all the hustle and bustle of everyday life, then Knapp and Paper Mill is the place to go.
This Worcestershire gem is a nature reserve near Alfrick and it’s a place where you can hear the birds sing, the stream trickling as it meanders through the countryside and all the little bugs and insects as they chatter away.
When my children were little, we used to escape here to find the fairy’s (who live in the trees…obviously 😉). We would take a picnic and spend hours splashing in the stream and playing ‘We’re going on a bear hunt…’
Over 30 species of butterfly have been recorded across the three meadows that make up the reserve, along with countless birds to spot including woodpeckers, redwing and buzzards.
What’s even better is that it won’t cost you a penny…all that they ask is that you respect the reserve and the wildlife that lives there.
